Curriculum: Ages 5-18

Good teachers love to teach. We all know that. But good teachers also like to help parents be effective teachers. Here are a few thoughts about various disciplines from the same people who work so hard to teach your children.

Although One Day Academy is not a strictly classical resource, we find ourselves very much in step with classical education, since classical education philosophy is so consistent with neurology and childhood brain physiological development.

Classical Education

1. Younger children focus on memorizing facts, since that is what the young brain is designed to do. (math facts, spelling, state capitals, grammar rules, etc)

2.  Middle years students, learn single concepts, more complex than facts to memorize, but still simple and singular.

3. Older kids work at assimilation, integration, synthesis, and application, tying together many strands of diverse thought and procedure.

Academic Development

Helping students be better students – because good curriculum requires good students.

Mathematics

International style mathematics education looks nothing like what happens in this country, which is why we try to make sure that the math education we provide looks nothing like what tends to happen in this country.

English

Understanding how to teach children English so that they will actually be ready for college when it is time to go.
