Purpose:
The goal of this course is to teach and guide each student through the entire career development process. This includes in-depth self-assessment, career and college exploration and decision-making, and job search strategies and tools which are valuable for the college admissions process, as well as for any job search.
This highly interactive course is designed to assist the junior or senior* student make some initial career decisions, investigate the college application and scholarship process, and learn valuable tools applicable for any career path. Fall semester will focus on self assessment where students will complete a variety of exercises to better understand their interests, skills, values, and personality types. In-depth assessment helps all students better prepare for presenting themselves for colleges and employers. Second semester will focus on exploring careers of interest and developing basic job search skills important for the college application process, as well as general job seeking. Developing a resume and cover letter, practice interviewing and general advice on the career plannings and college application process will all be covered. Each student must have access to the internet for completing some assessments and doing career research. Active student participation is required and will enhance the learning experience for the entire class.

Curriculum / Materials:
Materials fee: $100 which includes workbook and two career assessments & reports listed below.
Administration and interpretation of The CALL Vocational and Life Purpose Report from Follow Your Calling and the Strong Interest Inventory® and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Career Report with Strong Profile and Strong College for assessment tools. We will also utilize a workbook for job searching tools. Tentative selection: Young Person’s Guide to Getting and Keeping a Good Job. Text and assessments are all included in the materials fee.
