Suggested Age:
14-16 years old
Prerequisite:
A curiosity of the world around us and how things work. Students typically like to build things and want to explore new ideas. Students have completed Pre-Algebra.
Purpose / Process:
This course dives into of the world of Engineering. Similar to the structure of Engineering 1, this course will dig deeper into engineering principles and challenge students in their design process. Some of the fields that will be explored are civil, mechanical, computer, biomedical, chemical, electrical, aerospace, industrial, and architectural engineering. The class will learn the basic principles in these disciplines and then build and design a project. Students work in teams as they develop their designs just like in a industry. There are lots of hands on activities to demonstrate the lessons and time for discussion on how and why design decisions are made. Since problem solving is key to any engineering field, that is an integral part of this class. Weekly assignments are given in math concepts and engineering principles. Basic drafting principles are also learned in the course. Just like a doctor or lawyer, engineers have a code of ethics that must be followed to maintain good moral character in the decisions that they make, and this course will emphasize the development of Christian ethics.
Curriculum:
TBD – a Project manual, a basic physics book, a Bible, a drafting book (specifics will be available soon)
