Fashion Design – Patternmaking

(Formerly listed as Fashion Design & Sewing IIB – Teen Advanced)

Prerequisite:

Pre-Requisite: Completed Fashion Design – Teen Beginner class. Students who need more sewing experience may also need to take the Fashion Sewing Studio before taking this Patternmaking Class.

Purpose:

ADVANCED PROGRAM CURRICULUM:
Information will advance each year so that by senior year student will have learned about different areas of apparel & textile industries and obtain skills needed to prepare for a career in it.

1st year Advanced Teen Students will
• Make personal dress form, as well as sew & fit cover for form
• Learn basic fitting techniques
• Make Custom Bodice Sloper pattern by use of draping on dress form and flat patternmaking
• Learn basic flat patternmaking: dart manipulation on personal bodice sloper
• Further develop fashion sketching skills
• Take an advanced level role in Year End Fashion Show Production

Continuing Advanced Teen Students will:
• Further basic flat patternmaking knowledge using personal sloper patterns created in previous year’s class
• Assist 1st year advanced students in making personal dress forms, basic sloper patterns & basic fitting technique
• Further develop fashion sketching skills
• Use basic sloper pattern to create originally designed garments
• Take an advanced level role in Fashion Show Production

Curriculum / Materials:

Patternmaking & dress form supplies, sewing machines, sewing tools & folder with class handouts will be provided.
