Purpose
This engaging course is designed to teach fundamental acting skills through instruction, theater games, script analysis, an optional off-campus drama competition, and an end-of-year Parent performance. The student will develop self-expression skills and foster his love of classical literature through a staging of an adaptation of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.

1. Vocal Variety
2. Character Analysis
3. How to Score a Script
4. Stage Movement
5. Blocking and Stage Vocabulary
6. Group Improvisation (optional event offered at Celtic Tournament)
7. Prose Interpretation (optional event offered at Celtic Tournament)
8. Stage Pictures
9. Makeup, Prop Creation and Costuming
10. Staging the Play (10 minute competition Scene- Waxahachie Renaissance Faire in early May AND Parent Performance in late May)
Course Requirements
Homework includes a group improvisation project, a Prose interpretation piece, and a character analysis project. Students will not receive a grade for Theatre, but they will get credit for the course based on the following criteria:
1. Attendance
2. Participation and attentiveness
3. Completion of all homework assignments
Materials
Students will need to bring a binder to hold scripts and handouts, pencils, and a highlighter.
Students who wish to compete at the Celtic Invitational Speech Tournament (held in Temple in late January) will need a small (6 by 8 inch) black binder to hold their scripts. For the May performance, Mrs. Holle will provide basic costumes, although parents are expected to alter to fit. Needed props will be made in class or provided by the instructor. Students pay no extra fee to compete at Waxahachie, but will need to pay per event for Celtic Tournament if student wishes to compete. Celtic events are approximately 7 dollars per student and registration occurs in December.
