Latin 1

Suggested Age:

13-17

Prerequisite:

None

Process:

Considering the journey into Christian Latin? Your students will thank you for it. Whether they plan to pursue careers in law, medicine, or the sciences, or they just want to sharpen their English grammar and vocabulary skills, the systematic study of Latin will develop their minds in ways that other subjects cannot.

Latin 1 is the equivalent of one year of High School Foreign Language credit. It is designed for the high school student with little or no background in the language. It includes a weekly study of Latin vocabulary and English derivatives. During the year, students will learn all 5 noun declensions and cases, all verb conjugations, irregular verbs, and various pronouns, adjectives and adverbs. Learning is reinforced through weekly readings and translations. The students also take a fascinating journey through Roman culture, myths, and history, all through a Christian perspective. Students will be reading weekly Latin texts about such historical figures as Aeneas, Cincinnatus, Hannibal, Cato, Cicero, Spartacus, Julius Caesar and Brutus.

Curriculum:

Latin Alive Book 1 (Student Text) by Karen Moore and Gaylan DuBose is required
