Process

Painting from life is a pursuit unlike any other painting technique. It challenges artists to concentrate every sensory nerve on the information in front them. They absorb it all, from sight to sound, from temperature to atmosphere, and then channel those feelings from head to hand, recreating the vision in paints on paper or canvas.

Students in this class should have a desire to create paintings that have an impressionistic feel as opposed to a highly rendered or detailed look. Solid drawing skills, along with an understanding of color, value, and contrast will be helpful in this class. A basic understanding of perspective will put you over the top.

We will look at the work of the famous impressionists from Europe and some incredible painters from California. An art supply kit will be available for purchase for this class. The instructor will send a materials list for general supplies that students will need.

The materials fee will cover specialty supplies that are purchased in bulk and supplied by the instructor.
