Process
The Renaissance Painting class teaches a technique that was used in the Renaissance (1500’s) by such famous artists as Leonardo DaVinci and Andre Botticelli. The skill level necessary for the Renaissance Painting class: strong drawing skills or completion of Basic Art Skills with a desire to creatively learn.
The Renaissance name sounds big, but we start at the basics - drawing on a canvas, and then slowly progress to a completed value (black and white) drawing. After that, we add or sculpt the form in paint and lastly apply oil color to a completed black and white work. I am always amazed at the outcome.
We will also learn art history and study different artists from this period. For those students who will pursue a liberal arts career, they will begin study from a book called The Renaissance ART BOOK, by Wenda O’Reilly.
Students will need a variety of supplies. The materials fee will cover the portions of special charcoal pencils, (hard to find Cretecolor NERO), mixtures, fixatives, oil paints, and materials. I will send a list to parents and students and will work with tools/brushes/etc. you may already have.
An art supply kit will be available for purchase for this class.
