Purpose
This course is designed to be the student’s first systematic introduction to the sciences. The course covers such diverse topics as the scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, and physiology.
The scope of this course is quite wide. The students will have many hands-on experiments to be performed in lab groups as well as some to complete at home. Lab time is used to discuss concepts from the text and the results from applicable experiments. Oral quizzes and special projects may be given during the course. Students are encouraged to maintain a lab notebook and be sure to complete the assignments in the text.
