Course Description:
Purpose
The purpose and goal of this class is focused grammar study, putting together all the pieces of grammar that a student has been learning through their elementary years. Students’ writing in later middle school and high school years will be strengthened by the development of strong grammatical skills. Students will also study vocabulary and grow in confidence through writing weekly.
Process
Grammar
Easy Grammar 6 will be the main text utilized.
A grammar lesson will be taught in class.
Homework will help reinforce the skill taught in class.
By the end of the year, students will be able to identify all parts of a sentence.
Writing
At the beginning of the year, students will review basic sentence and paragraph structure.
Students will complete bi-weekly compositions, allowing time to complete the writing process and receive feedback from instructors.
Vocabulary/Spelling
Weekly vocabulary charts.
Vocabulary/Spelling words that teach basic prefixes and suffixes.
Vocabulary/Spelling words which can be integrated into students’ writing.
Parental Responsibilities
Parents are responsible for grading anything that has a key, which is spelling, vocabulary charts and grammar. All grades will be recorded on a grade sheet and turned into the teacher. Teachers will keep track of grades throughout the semesters and give final grades. Teachers will also grade compositions and exams.
